About Icons8
Introduction
Finding the perfect design asset, from a specific icon to a unique photo, can be a major bottleneck in creative projects. Icons8 provides a massive library of design resources and has integrated AI tools to generate custom visuals that don't exist anywhere else.
What is Icons8?
Icons8 is a platform offering a wide range of design assets, including icons, illustrations, photos, and music. It also features several AI-powered tools, most notably an AI face generator (Generated Photos) and other image manipulation features within their ecosystem.
How Icons8 Works
Users can browse or search the extensive library for traditional assets. For AI features, you can navigate to their face generator to create a unique, royalty-free model photo from scratch by specifying attributes. Other AI tools might be integrated into their image editor for tasks like background removal or upscaling.
Key Features and Capabilities
The platform's key features are its massive, consistent library of icons and illustrations. Its standout AI capability is the "Generated Photos" tool, which creates hyper-realistic human faces. They also offer AI background removal and image upscaling.
Who Can Benefit from Icons8?
If you're a UI/UX designer, you have access to a huge library of consistent icons. Marketers can create custom visuals and find royalty-free music. Content creators can generate unique model photos without worrying about model releases.
Pricing and Plans
Icons8 uses a subscription model. A free tier provides access to lower-resolution assets with the requirement of linking back. A paid subscription unlocks high-resolution assets, vector files, full licensing, and access to their AI features.
Pros and Cons
What We Like
It's an all-in-one resource for many design needs. The AI-generated faces are a unique solution for avoiding stock photo cliches and privacy issues.
Areas for Improvement
The sheer volume of assets can sometimes be overwhelming to navigate. The AI features are part of a larger subscription, which might not be cost-effective if you only need one specific tool.
How Icons8 Compares to Alternatives
Compared to individual tool sites, Icons8 offers a bundled value proposition. Unlike pure stock photo sites, it provides unique, AI-generated images. It combines the functions of an asset library and a set of AI editing tools.
Getting Started with Icons8
Explore the free assets on their website to get a feel for the quality and style. Try the AI face generator to see how easy it is to create a custom portrait. If your workflow requires frequent use of design assets, the subscription is worth considering.
